Where: The Children’s Museum, 10 King Street W, Kitchener

Summary:   Education creates boundless social and economic opportunities, breaking the cycle of poverty and creating a more secure and prosperous future for all.   This event for teachers, educators and education students will explore how Canada and Canadians are improving quality and access to educational opportunities at all levels, and what educators can do here in Canada to bring global education into their classrooms. 

Speakers:

Ms. Zahra Bhanji, Ph.D. Candidate, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto,  will discuss the importance of Global Education, and ways in which teachers can incorporate global issues into elementary and secondary school curriculum.

Film Screening - Madrasa Early Childhood Program:

A screening of Madrasa Early Childhood Program, which highlights early childhood education programming in East Africa.   The film examines at the importance of pre-school education in helping young children prepare for later learning and life.  Viewers will experience a “typical” day in a Madrasa pre-school, and will find out how the Madrasa Resource Centre in Kenya works closely with the local community to establish and maintain its pre-school, the importance of training local women as teachers, and the use of the Madrasa Pre-School curriculum in the classroom.
